We’ve found someone who might be quite a good prospect to look after the house this summer, and last week I left him there for a trial run. He’s keen to help – always a plus – and is an ascetic environemtalist, who cycles everywhere. It now seems that our housesitters can manage without a car, particularly if they’re happy to cycle. Anyway, G, as I shall call him, has been working hard digging the veg patch and I was able actually to sow some seeds. With luck, we shall have spring carrots, and broad beans (the ones I sowed in the autumn sprouted and were eaten by the pigeons. I shall have to get some kind of net to keep them off).
I hope it has been as sunny there as it has been here in London – it was bitter when G and I arrived, but a few days with the stove going help to take off the evening chill while the spring sunshine warms up the days.
